Styling black can create sleek, sophisticated looks suitable for various occasions. Here’s how:
1. Monochrome Magic: Embrace the elegance of an all-black ensemble.
For coporate events, my black tailored jacket and a black lightweight chiffon dress is my go-to as I can easily remove the jacket should it become warm. I complete the look with a patent leather bag and matching jelly ballet flats for that polished look.
A casual day would have me in black jeans, a black top and black sneakers. I tend to favour a fitted top over a boxy fit to suit my body shape better.
I am still waiting for that perfect opportunity to put on the black leather biker jacket ;)
2. Pop of Color: Elevate your black outfit with a splash of color. A vibrant scarf, bold statement jewelry, or colorful shoes can add personality and contrast to your look while keeping the sophistication intact.
You can use black as an accent too.
3. Accessorize Wisely:
I personally love pearls, and if you see the cover picutre, I have a pair of pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet that match with my black floral dress. This dress is our popular Carielle print, and my dress has a simple A-line fit. This ensemble can bring me to a formal event, and I can even add a pearl choker necklace to up the formal vibe.
A structured handbag or a sleek belt can also add sophistication to your look without overpowering it.
Silver or gold jewelry can also complement the sleekness of black. If your outfit is fully black, be sure to opt for a statement jewellery that can become the centre-piece of your look. If you are cool toned, wear silver. If you are warm toned, opt for gold.
4. Play with Textures:
For work, wear that black pencil skirt with a fitted knit top and matching heels for a clean, sharp silhouette.
As for a formal event, choose a gown with a beaded bodice and tulle skirt to create more visual interest.
In this picture, a tutleneck is paired with a denim skirt, replete with topstitching.
5. Mix and Match: Don’t be afraid to mix different shades of black or combine black with other neutral tones like white for a modern twist on classic monochrome styling.
6. Tailored Pieces: Invest in well-tailored black pieces like a blazer, dress pants, or a little black dress. These timeless staples can be dressed up or down and serve as the foundation for a variety of stylish looks.
